If one were to list all the recognized holidays we have, the list would be quiet long. Some of them are worthy to have, to celebrate, and to have off from work in honor of their observance. Included in that list are New's Year's Day, Martin Luther King's Birthday, Mother's day, Father's day, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth Of July, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
I've often wondered how the vast number of other holidays came into play, like Secretary's Day, President's Day, Valentne's Day, Halloween, etc., etc. I think one likelihood is that they were someone's idea that deemed profitable and became official. A lot of money is spent celebrating Valentine's Day, Halloween...and especially President's day. We pay dearly for the latter one by paying Federal workers to sit at home while the rest of us have to go to work. In my opinion, that one needs to be eliminated. Why treat the government employees to a paid day off when our tax dollars are in short supply already?
